For people who have never been in therapy, the thought of the first session can be intimidating. Typically, what happens in the first consultation is a rather casual conversation where we get to know each other. Through this conversation, it is relatively easy for the two of us to decide if we want to work together.
In my experience most people are surprised how comfortable the first session is. Like many situations in life, sometimes the hardest part is getting over that initial "stuckness". (Yes it's true, I do make up words)
I offer a free phone consultation and I encourage people to interview several therapists before they make their choice. I strongly believe there must be a good fit between client and therapist for effective therapy to take place.
